Govt Approves SIEMAT Vision 2020

The vision to elevate the State Institute of Educational Management and Training (SIEMAT) into a university by 2020 is becoming a reality with the State Government approving the SIEMAT-Kerala Vision 2020. The State Government has sanctioned `3.46 crore for the first stage of the SIEMAT-Kerala project for converting the institute into a centre of excellence on international standards. The government sanctioned the amount in addition to the grant-in-aid allocated in the 2013-14 budget. The government took the decision on a proposal from the SIEMAT director. The director had proposed to elevate the Institute into a centre for excellence in educational planning, management and administration by 2020. Aid Sought He had also requested financial assistance to the tune of Rs 3.46 crore for the first stage of Vision 2020. The SIEMAT was established in the state in 2005 based on a central educational policy that emphasised the need to establish state-level institutions to promote excellence in capacity building of educational functionaries. The SIEMAT’s mission is to impart management training to all stakeholders in education sector; conduct researches and studies to provide input for training programmes; generate, collect, document and disseminate data base for educational planning, research and analysis; develop an efficient educational management information system; generate and document innovative ideas and methods useful in educational transaction and management; document innovative experiments in school education within and outside the state; design policy frameworks for educational management; conduct periodic reviews and assessments on different programmes on educational management.
