BHARATIYA VIDYA BHAVAN - SCHOOL PROFILE

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was founded by K.M.Munshi with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi in 1938 when the country was engrossed in the struggle for freedom. While country’s freedom was the top national priority, serious thinking had started on National Reconstruction and Rejuvenation that was to follow the independence. Under the guidance of enlightened thinkers and visionaries like Shri.C. Rajagopalachari, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr.S. Radhakrishnan, Pandit Nehru, Sardazr Patel and others the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan aimed to revitalize the ancient values and reintegrate them with the changing times
During the last 75 years, the Bhavan has been steadfastly endeavouring to hold fast to the fundamental values of life and from a humble beginning , it has grown into a national movement, voluntary, ever-growing, apolitical and solely devoted to life, literature and culture. To-day, the Bhavan has come to be recognized as a symbol of the intellectual, educational, cultural, ethical and social values of India.
The Bhavan functions through 90 Kendras spread in different parts of India as also 08 Overseas Centres in London, New York, Toronto, Lisbon Mexico, Australia, Kuwait, Doha, and Abudabi. The Bhavan has also 150 Constituent units imparting training from Kindergarten to Post-Graduate studies and Research in subjects ranging from Sanskrit, Ayurveda, Indian Classical Music, Dance, Drama, Science, Engineering Technology, Journalism, Advertising, Media and Mass communication, Computer Technology and foreign languages like French, Spanish, Russian, German and Japanese.
The Bhavan opened its first Kendra in Kerala in Kochi in the year 1970. With Kochi Kendra serving as the spring board and model, the Bhavan founded ins second centre in Kerala Thrissur in 1978, followed by Kendras at Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Irinjalakuda, Palakkad, Ponnani, Tirunavaya numbering 30 Kendras in Kerala State. Bhavan’s Wayanad Kendra is the first rural Kendra to be established in the year 1991. With an idea to extend its thrust in backward and rural areas, where the need to light the lamp of learning and open the windows of culture is paramount, the Bhavan has started a Kendra in the rural district of Wayanad at Sulthan Bathery.
